Saturday, May 6, 2000, Ft Collins, Colorado. Western Championship High School
Playoffs. On a warm spring day with temperatures hovering in the 80's the
Littleton U-19 mens Harlequins defeated Aurora 23-10, Highlands Ranch 14-12
and for the title Douglas County 19-12.
In the 1st match the Quins got off to
a late start scoring all their points in the 2nd half behind the stellar
physical play of the forwards Joe Broussard, Jeremy Falkner, Matt Dougan,

Kent Druckenmiller, Sam Lovejoy,Roy Charsley, Drew Rhode and Josh Huston. The
Quins played a possession oriented physical match as the backs led by Chad
Van Ryan at SH and Andy Archer at FH originated slashing attacks from the
loose and lineouts as they continually made great decisions in play
|

selection, passing quick ball to space as backs in support Ben Bullock,
Marcus Kim, Collin Schaff, Dave Doperalski and Jared Keith continually
penetrated the gain line and made crunching one up tackles forcing Aurora to
commit many handling errors and penalties for offside. Chad and Andy
orchestrated attacks with strategic kicking and play calling as they caught
opponents on the back foot on numerous occasions. Josh Huston at hooker made
excellent throws in line outs and won numerous ball in scrummage play.
The 2nd match against # 2 seed Highlands Ranch was as the referee described it

officiated" as he allowed continuous flowing play as the Quins developed
possession ball from continuous rucking and support play. Quins led early up
14 points at the 1/2 on two brilliant runs by Chad and Andy as they scored
from 10 and 5 meters out. HR came roaring back in the 2nd half scoring
quickly on loose play. The Quins began to dominate the game in the latter

stages of the 2nd half with crunching tackles and fierce rucking led by
forwards Joe, Matt, Sam, Jeremy, Roy, and Drew as well as the hard running
and coverage by all the backs especially Andy, Chad, David and Jared as they
continuously met their opposites at the tackle line forcing numerous

turnovers and opportunities for ball retention. In the final for the
championship the Quins squared off against the Douglas County Stones. DC
scored early making the 1/2 time score 7-nil, despite having the ball
numerous times in their end the Quins didn't get on the board until the

beginning of the 2nd half on brilliant running, tactical kicking and quick
ball movement led by Chad and Andy. The forwards stepped up with intensity
with reserves Chris Meis and Harrigan and began to dominate with 20 minutes
to go as they continuously won ball in loose play with physical domination.
Jared, David, Zach Bollum, Marcus and Nick Hannigan continued the attack with
support play and crashing runs as well as hard hitting defense to secure the
victory as the Quins proudly accepted the trophy as Colorado State High
School Champions for 2000!

Other Quin players who contributed immensely to
our championship victory are: Gabe Hoggatt, Damir Macik(injured) Todd
Litzinger (injured) and Jon Riley as well as all the "A" side reserves and
"B" side players: John Glinsman, Tristin Victiroff, Mike Cordova. The Quins
are 1 of a field of 17 teams who were vying for the title.On the season the
Quins compiled a record of 8 WINS and 1 LOSS, in league play scoring a
combined total of 222 points to the opponents 24. The "B" side led by backs
John Glinsman , Tristen Victiriff, Mike Cordova, Nick Hannigan, Zach Bollum
and Forwards Chris Meis, Ben-Adam Schlecta compiled a season record of 3 wins
1 loss and 1 tie. All Littleton Harlequins U-19 men players and their parents
are to be commended on a truly fantastic and wonderful Championship season
the players who came to practice frequently and provided opposition for the

"A" side were very instrumental in the overall success of our teams, it truly
takes a team effort by all to make for a successful season. All the coaches
and staff are truly appreciative of the great cooperation, sportsmanship, and
dedication of ALL the players who participated this season as well as the
support and commitment of all the parents and supporters.

The Littleton Quin
U-19 men begin 7 a side rugby practice Tues/Thurs from 5:30-6:30 at Cook Park, Matches are for three successive Wednesdays , 5/10-5/17 and 5/24. The
Western Suburbs Quins achieved 2nd place in State for 7 a sides in 1999. ALL
Littleton U-19 players are encouraged to participate.
