Sorry to all the loyal supporters who are dying to read about the success of
the Quins, but as the author didn't score a try this weekend, he didn't see
any real priority in getting a match report out.
First off, the Quins would like to thank the Blue Goose for continuing a
fine rugby tradition of a good tournament, a big feed and a ton of beer
afterward. Slash receives special commendation for the best pool allocation
this union has seen in ages. Finally -- thanks to the Miller family for
hosting the Quins up in town.
The boys in red and blue started their day against a Breckenridge side
recently fortified by our neighbors from the south and east. In a match
where the momentum was never given a chance to build, the Quins were down by
2 after a fulltime try was scored. A brilliant sideline conversion from
flyhalf Rob Thomas drew the teams level at the final whistle. (where's my 5
bucks, Rob?
Next up were a combined side, anchored by Fort Collins. It was display of
incredible offense, as the Quins knew they needed to win, and score 8 tries
to climb to the top of the pool. With 3 in the first half, and 4 in the
second, it was a resounding win, but left us one try short of the finals.
The depth of the team was shown in the final match, where we took on our
comrades from the People's Republic of Boulder. Everyone who had been
sitting support started this match, and for the first 15minutes, we played
exclusively in Boulder's half. Staunch defense on their line prevented us
from going over for a try. A few breakaways in the second half turned the
game in favor of the division I side.
