Lloyd Chavez IV

As some of you may have heard, Lloyd Chavez IV was shot and killed this week just weeks away from graduating high school. Lloyd played youth rugby in Colorado for 4 years and was in his 4th year with the Aurora Saracens. He was a 3rdgeneration rugby player whose father and grandfather both played for the Denver Highlanders. His older brother Dorian played for the Saracens and is now serving in the United States Marine Corps. While we are devastated by this loss, we would also like to celebrate his life and support his family in their time of grief.
Lloyd’s father has asked that we invite the rugby community to come join us. We will be at Cook Park at 7100 Cherry Creek Drive South on the rugby pitch just east of the Rec Center. Saturday, May 18th, beginning at 4.00 pm. We will have food and some drink but since we have no idea how many will be joining us, you might want to bring your own drinks.
This invite is open for all – High school, colleges, men’s and women’s clubs. Please wear something rugby to show you support for your club, this game, and most of all for the Chavez family.

Rocky Mountain Rugby Challenge

The 20th Annual Rocky Mountain Challenge will be held June 14-16, with matches played at Dove Valley Regional Park (near the home of the Denver Broncos). Competition divisions include Boys & Girls Tier I (Seniors/Juniors), Boys & Girls Tier II (Sophomores/Freshmen), Boys Middle School, and – for the first time – Girls Middle School. The Rocky Mountain Challenge is the Rocky Mountain region’s Regional Cup Tournament (RCT) for USA Rugby and, being first founded in the year 2000, is the predecessor to all RCT events today.
This year’s event will also feature a College Seminar by The Rugger’s Edge which will provide an overview of the college rugby landscape as well as tips for students about how to communicate and stand out to college coaches and in a tournament setting. This seminar is highly encouraged for all players, parents, and HS coaches attending the Rocky Mountain Challenge. Additionally, this year’s event will also feature a College Fair for programs looking to recruit High School athletes.
